If your child can read basic words such as sat or dog, then with a bit of advanced phonics instruction they will be able to read sneakers or doubt.
After the child has learned the basic phonics sounds (the a says /a/), they need to learn that different letter combinations can also make specific sounds. Here is the list of sounds you should teach, in order as recommended by Reading Specialist in The Reading Teacher's Book of Lists.
I would recommend teaching from 3 - 7 new sounds a week, depending on how the child responds. Over a couple weeks you will see their reading ability JUMP!

Akeeba you have made my job so much better. I am a Jamaican 🇯🇲 3rd grade teacher and I just adore your passion. Continue to do a great job.
I would love if I can know exactly how to say those sounds by hearing them so I can better help my child I live in st Vincent and the grenadines
Akeeba, I’m so glad I found you on Youtube! I’ve been bingeing on your channel for the last week!
My kindergartener and I finished the book “Teach your Child to Read in 100 Easy Lessons” a few months ago and we have kept reading, but things haven’t progressed as quickly without a guide. This list will be a big help!
Thanks.
