Reading/Spelling for Big Kids - Summer 2023

In this 6 week course I'll teach you how to  follow a systematic, science based reading program to improve the reading and spelling of your 6 - 11 year old child.
 
In these one hour weekly  classes, I will teach you how to use the From Phonics to Reading textbook and teacher's guide. I will answer specific questions you have. As the children advance in the book, you will learn to correct common mistakes. If you cannot attend, meetings will be recorded. 
 
You'll also get membership to a private facebook group dedicated to Phonics to Reading. You will be able to ask questions and share your successes with other parents who are on this journey with you.
 
About the program:
There are 5 lessons per week, and 180 total lessons. This program is meant for an entire school year, but one-on-one with your child you can work through it faster - finishing by the end of September. 
 
How much time will lessons take? 15 - 25 minutes a day
 
You must buy the student book and teacher's guide in order to participate. You can look for the teacher's guide used, but otherwise it is about $60. You need one student book per child, they are around $18.
 
This is a non-refundable workshop. Once you register, you take a seat away from someone else, so no refunds. Come to class & let's get your child to be a TOP READER AND SPELLER! 
 
Dates: Sundays, 4 PM EST  
- 6 Meetings over 6 Weeks (Sundays, 4 PM EST, 1 PM PST) 
- 60 minutes lessons (30 minute lecture, 30 minute Q&A)
- Private chatroom to meet and share milestones and questions with other parents (Facebook or Text)
- First Meeting: July 9
- Last Meeting: August 20 (No class August 13)
If we need to go longer, we will have two additional classes.

My child struggles to read and spell, will this help them?
 
Yes.
 
My child has autism/adhd/ speech therapy another need. Can I do the program with them?
 
If your child is capable of listening for 15 minutes, and has demonstrated they can learn (even if it takes a longer period of time), this course and program can work. Not only will you learn how to teach your child to read, but you’ll gain valuable teaching and management skills, so you can continue to teach your child anything you’d like.
 
What exactly is your course?
 
As teachers, we have academic coaches who help us improve our teaching. Once or twice a week, we meet with them to discuss how our students are progressing. We ask questions, for example, “My student is saying the T sound instead of TH, how do I correct this?” or “ A student is having trouble sounding out longer words, what do I do? “ Over seven weeks, I will be your academic coach, helping you through teaching your child to read. 
 
I will meet with you once a week to teach you new strategies, and help answer any questions or problems that arise. I will also be available via text and voice messaging. I will also hold office hours three times, if you need more one on one help.
 
What exactly do I need to buy?
 
The materials for the class are the Phonics to Reading series for your child’s level. You need to purchase the student book and the teachers manual. You can resell the teachers manual when you are finished, but this is an absolute must for the class. Once you register, download the document and you will see a quiz that will help you determine which level your child is in.
 
What if I can’t make the live zoom sessions?
All zoom sessions are recorded. In addition, you can jump on office hours if you have a question, or shoot me a text.

After you go through this course, you will be able to take what you’ve learned and teach your child year-round. No need to spend more money on tutors or reading centers!
